Now and then the base will conduct a feeding in the slums when they have the budget to do so. Luckily they had the budget to this month and I could be a part of it. This time the target was the kids of the slum areas. There are two slums that we visit, Arellano and Pantal; both are very different from each other.

On Saturday we went to Pantal, but, we began our extravaganza on Friday night shopping. We bought lots of eggs, two gigantic tubs of mayo, bread, a block of cheese, (it reminds me of velvita), powdered juice and bread. Then on Saturday we hard boiled the eggs and made egg salad sandwiches. They say the more mayo the better it tastes.

We then went to Pantel and I was elected to give the story. I told them the wise story of Solomon and the two prostitutes who argued over the baby. Gigi did a wonderful job of interpreting the story for me. Of course we sang silly songs and laughed a lot, cause that’s what Filipinos do; laugh!
Next we tried our best to line them up in order to pass out the food. This was a difficult task which got out of hand at the end with the juice. It was raining most of Saturday because there was a Typhoon, but the rain died down for us to go out when we did, only by the hand of the Lord.

Monday we fed Arellano. Preparing for this one seemed easier because there were more people available to help; it went by real quick! Same food as Pantal. This time when we put the sandwich in a plastic bag, we put a name on it, from our kids ministry roster, with the idea that it might keep it on the calmer side rather then wild.

It was raining when we left and I didn’t bring the camera so I have no pictures of this time. We didn’t do a story this time, for multiple reasons, we just passed out the sandwiches. Since Fronie is in charge of the Kids Ministry here she called out the names so the children could get food. We would put aside the sandwiches for the kids who weren’t around to collect them. When all the names were read we tried to get the kids in a line, this proved to be unsuccessful. There were parents, teenagers and kids all crowded around, little ones almost getting trampled on, we had to give up trying to keep controlled. All at once the box got destroyed and the rest of the unnamed sandwiches were fought over.

I will post another short blog hopefully tomorrow with a few thoughts I have regarding the feedings. J also more pictures!

One response to “Feeding the People!”

  1. Great to see ya’ll out assisting the people. Especially after the tragic typhoon. Glad to see ya’ll not effect much by the rain/flooding. Our prayers are with you always.
