When we went we spent a lot of time hanging out with the students and talking, after a good amount of that Mark started with a Bible study about prayer, next I gave a testimony and a little background information about myself. I felt very relaxed and not in the least bit nervous at talking in front of all of the students.
Once the bible study was over the students dispersed, this was exam so many were cramming. One of the students Marcel stuck around and all went and got drinks together and walk the mall. Marcel is one of the pioneers of the Bible study being one of the most faithful and passionate about making it happen. She is also an expert chess player. She is a very sweet quiet natured young woman, of 21 years of age, she is an engineering student.
Thursday I went with Fronie to the slum again but we had kids ministry this time instead. I love being around the children; to look in their faces and see the look in their eyes. They are of course like many children especially when they are in a large group very rambunctious.
We sang songs, had a memory verse, and had a bible story which I read in English and Fronie translated into Tagalog, they don’t speak English well at all, for a few reasons, one being they learn it in school, and since they are young and just starting school, they only know so much, another reason is that they live in the slum and don’t need to ever use English. Tagalog is their second language, so English is their third language. Their first language is whatever native dialect they speak in the province they are in.
After the bible study we played little games, like matching shapes and a crossword for the older of the kids, who could read. Once I get more used to the language I will have more stories to share concerning Kids Ministry.
Today is Fronie’s Birthday!
As a side note, there is a little saying here, “What is life without rice?”
remember…a meal without rice…is a snack!
you’re so brave Mags!
I loved campus ministry. Glad you are getting a taste of it there, too.
