I haven’t blogged in such a long time it seems, but in reality it’s only been a week or so. Last time I wrote, here at the base we were very busy preparing for the Singapore team to come. And come they came! It was so awesome to get to meet them. They arrived Monday night and flew out Friday afternoon so their trip here was very short in length of days but many hour of hard work.
We took all of Tuesday to purchase supplies for relief. Clothing, food, medical supplies and such things like that. One thing I have learned about Singaporeans, is that they are very generous. As I mentioned before in a previous blog I was teamed up with Queeny in charge of purchasing clothing items and making bags to hand out. Our target price to purchase the items was around PHP 98,985.00 which is about $2100. Just for our part of the relief. That excludes medical and the feeding. We bought over 2000 clothing items plus 125 tarps for their homes. It was a long day of buying things because finding enough children’s clothes is hard. The Singaporean team brought with them sandals to pass out too.
Over the next few days we prepared the bags with the families names on them making each specific to the people in the family. We helped cook lots and lots of rice. We were able to make about 2000 bags of rice and chicken! More then every before! We served about 440 POUNDS of rice! In just 2 days! It was amazing to be a part of this and to experience what it means to be generous.
The team that came also gave a monetary gift to the base for office and everyday household supplies and also to bless the kids YWAM sponsors here and pots and burners for some of the people in the slum. So this past week we have still been on the go! Canvassing, purchasing and organizing. There is always work to do!
How exciting to see/read how God is using you and His people to bring relief to those in need. It’s also great to see you smiling in pictures instead of making funny faces!!
Great to hear about the aid your team is supplying.
How are you dealing with “Christmas” in Oct. there?
