A week ago from today, I went to this club hosted by a church in Gainesville. It gives elementary school kids the chance to be tutored.

Last week was my first time going, I enjoyed myself so much. If there’s something that delights my heart it would have to be hanging out with kids. Unlike working with the Torch/300, where the kids are middle school age this little guys on Mondays are so cute and nice!

It starts with a bus dropping off about 35 kids, and little children go running everywhere! Balls start being thrown and card games are started. We played an organized game of knockout (that’s with the basketball) and dodge ball! Which both were fun and not aggressive! 🙂

Next we go have a little chapel time, where the gospel is taught in an interactive way.

Here comes the exciting part for me, not saying Jesus isn’t exciting, but it gives me the chance to be the body of Christ and show love!

I was assigned to help out with the second graders. So for the most part there is one to two kids per helper. Well at least that’s the way it is in the second grade room. I start walking in the direction of the room we are supposed to be working in and this little girl comes and grabs my hand!

Then the girl next to me asks me if i can speak spanish, I responded with “a little”. Come to find out Adriana the little girl who grabbed my hand doesn’t speak english, she just came here to the States from Mexico last month. Adriana can’t read in english or spanish, she doesn’t really have an education from Mexico. So she is learning every thing new! We read a very simple book, which was both in spanish and english! But she’s great at addition and subtraction! I found it challenging to help her but so worth it.

Hopefully when I go again today we will be able to work with each other again!

  1. Excelente! Maggie, si aprendas más, ayudas, más. Estoy seguro que la niña esté muy felice hablar español contigo.
